From the time kids are young, it's important that we teach them about living sustainably and protecting our planet. Even little ones can learn from your example, and as they get older, they can be more active participants in living a kind life.
Here are three tips for teaching your kids to live kind:
Put up reminders around the house about turning off the water when they are brushing their teeth, separating trash, compost and recyclables, turning off lights and unplugging the TV.
Make recycling easy
Set up a recycling station in your kitchen or other area with clearly marked receptacles. Talk to your kids about the more unusual things that can be recycled too -- from blue jeans to batteries. If you are creating a compost pile, place a big canister in your kitchen and then show your kids where to empty it into your pile.
Plant a garden
Even if you don't have much space, you can plant a small vegetable garden in your yard or even on a balcony. Tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and other veggies can grow just about anywhere. It's important to teach kids about where their food actually comes from. Go to a farmers market (or an actual farm) and let them talk to the farmers to learn about how the food gets to our table.
