Rise and shine
There was a time when we couldn't have imagined taking parenting advise from Nicole Richie. But the mom of two has turned into quite the responsible – and smart – young mom. Her latest piece of sage advise? She wakes at 5:30 every morning before the kids get up so she can enjoy a cup of coffee alone.
It sets the course for her whole day, and you'll find even a few minutes head start in front of the chaos of the day will make a difference in your day too.
Stretch for serenity
As a busy mom, you may not have time for an entire yoga class, but stealing a few minutes out of your day for some power stretching is great for mind and body.
Yoga can reduce stress, ease lower back pain (moms who tote their tots can relate to this!) and re-energize your mind and body. To begin, sit cross-legged on the floor and walk your fingers out in front of you. Then try some yoga poses such as the right-angle pose, the downward dog or the tree pose.
tip^If you are not familiar with yoga poses, check out a quick yoga DVD such as 10-Minute Solution: Yoga.
Take a potty break
I'm not sure how many moms I know that haven't gone to the bathroom by themselves since becoming a mom. It's totally normal, but the fact is, you deserve a little alone time to do your business. And while you're in there, why not flip through the pages of your favorite gossip rag for a few minutes?
The gift of gab
Sometimes venting to a friend during a stressful day can change your whole perspective. If you need a quick bitch sesh, set your kids up with an activity, then sneak into the next room and call your most non-judgmental friend to hash it out. Set the timer and hang it up after 10 minutes. You'll feel refreshed and ready to face the rest of your day.
